A GOOD DAY OUT

As a designer, I am constantly fascinated by shape and colour, as well as emotion.
I particularly enjoy the challenge of finding new and creative ways of capturing an emotion in a moment in time,
where nature is an invitation to dream and introspection, and a reflection of the world around me.
Exploring new places is something I’m passionate about, but I also love to keep going back to familiar places to discover new angles and see things from a different perspective. I think it’s important to develop a keen vision to bring beauty to light, not just to capture it by changing location. The surrounding natural environment can evoke beauty, calm, balance, but also roughness, instability, and uncertainty when a storm develops.
These photographs tell a story of a journey to a familiar place, Cape Schanck, on a stormy windy day. The combination of a strong wind, sporadic sunshine, and different tides results in a landscape where hidden beauty lies. It’s being part of this ever-changing vastness of space that somehow makes you feel reconnected to Mother Earth which, with its mood swings, almost takes on human features.

This is exactly what my intent is when photographing nature in a defined elegant black and white aesthetic. Without colour, the focus is more on the composition, contrast, and tonal range, and allows me to express emotions more effectively. The series of photographs I shot is intended to show the sensations I feel and communicate a visual language through light, shadows, negative space, leading lines, and shapes.
